Whale Swimbait
The Whale Swimbait combines a full-bodied baitfish profile with a kicking paddle tail that works on a steady retrieve. Its deep belly creates a substantial silhouette, while the tapered rear section lets the tail swing with subtle movement through the body. Choose a size to match the forage, then swim it over grass, through open water, or behind a swim jig.
01 Full Body. Active Tail.
The Whale’s deep body offers a fuller silhouette when slender swimbaits don’t match the forage. Its rear section narrows into a paddle tail that kicks as the bait moves forward, adding swimming action without repeated rod twitches.
A keel-style belly and molded pectoral fins help maintain balance as the tail works. Start with a steady retrieve and adjust your speed to change the pace of the presentation.
02 Match Your Rig to the Water
Rig weedless on a suitable keel-weighted hook for submerged grass and vegetation edges. Choose enough hook gap to accommodate the deep body, keep the bait straight, and protect the hook point.
Use a swimbait jighead in open water or when fishing deeper. Count the bait down, then swim it steadily. Adjust head weight and retrieve speed to follow the depth fish are holding.
Pair it with a compatible underspin to combine the paddle-tail action with a rotating blade. Check that the blade has clearance beneath the belly and turns freely.
Add it to a compatible swim jig when you want more body and paddle-tail movement behind the skirt. Thread it straight and leave the rear section free to move.
03 Choose Your Profile
Match smaller baitfish while retaining the Whale’s deeper shape. These sizes let you shorten the presentation without switching to a slender profile.
Step up when bass are feeding on larger forage or when you want more bulk in a standalone swimbait or swim-jig trailer. Match hook size and tackle to the larger body.
04 Build Your Setup
Match hook size to your selected Whale and rigging weight to your depth and cover. Make a short retrieve beside the boat or bank to check alignment and tail action before casting.
