Hondo 4.5
The Hondo 4.5 combines a slender minnow-and-shad profile with a split kicking tail and flanged side appendages. Together, they produce a controlled tail kick and subtle body roll for a baitfish presentation you can swim, let fall, or work around cover.
A molded belly hook slot and dorsal alignment line help simplify straight rigging. Fish it on a ball head jig, keel-weighted hook, Texas rig, Carolina rig, free rig, or weightless to match the depth and cover in front of you.
01 Baitfish Profile. Controlled Action.
The split tail adds kicking movement as the Hondo swims. Its slender connection to the body lets the tail work while preserving the bait’s streamlined forage profile.
Molded flanges on the side appendages and tail add fine vibration and help stabilize the presentation. The result combines tail movement with subtle body roll on a steady retrieve.
The belly hook slot provides room for the plastic to collapse during the hookset, while the dorsal alignment line gives you a reference for centering the hook point. Straight rigging helps the bait track consistently.
02 Match the Rig to the Water
Thread the Hondo straight onto a compatible ball head jig and swim it around baitfish, points, and open-water structure. Adjust head weight and retrieve speed to work the depth where fish are holding.
Use the belly slot and dorsal alignment line to center the hook. Keep the point protected for swimming over submerged grass and working past scattered vegetation or cover.
Texas rig it around brush and wood, or use a Carolina or free rig to work bottom transitions and offshore structure. Mix short pulls with pauses, allowing the bait to fall between movements.
Fish it around shallow grass, docks, and visible cover when you want an unweighted presentation. Use light twitches and pauses, watching the line as the bait falls.
03 Build Your Setup
For Texas-rigged and cover-oriented presentations, match the hook to the body and leave enough clearance for the plastic to collapse. Choose the weight for your target depth and fall speed, and add a stopper when you need to keep the weight close to the bait.
